ABSTRACT:
Rural development plays a crucial role in the overall economic growth and social stability of Meghalaya, a predominantly rural state in northeastern India, government schemes are instrumental in addressing socioeconomic challenges such as poverty, unemployment, and inadequate infrastructure. This study explores the role of various government initiatives in fostering rural development in the state, focusing on sectors like agriculture, education, healthcare, and infrastructure. The research highlights the implementation of Government schemes to enhancing livelihood opportunities, improving access to basic amenities, and promoting sustainable development practices in rural areas, and empowering rural communities. Through qualitative and quantitative analysis, the study also identifies gaps in policy execution, such as delays in fund disbursement, inadequate monitoring, and lack of community participation. It emphasizes the need for inclusive governance, capacity building, and stronger collaboration between stakeholders to maximize the benefits of these schemes.
